Is buying a pre-owned stairgate a good idea?

Modified on Tue, 4 Jul, 2023 at 7:32 AM

No, it is not advisable to buy a second-hand stairgate. Just like other safety equipment such as car seats and bike helmets, stairgates should be disposed of after being involved in an accident. Purchasing a used stairgate without knowing its complete history poses a risk.

The gate may have experienced significant impact or pressure from someone falling against it, even if it appears to be in good working condition. Consequently, the gate could be compromised and potentially fail if someone in your family were to fall against it.

To ensure the safety of your loved ones, it is recommended to opt for a new stairgate with a known and reliable history.
